Summer barbecue for 30 families at Sutherland Quarters
The school summer holidays are long when there is no garden and no budget for days out, and record numbers of families across England are spending them in temporary accommodation.
On Thursday, one of the hottest days of the year, the team at Sutherland Quarters in Crawley hosted the annual summer barbecue for around 30 families. Gazebos gave people somewhere shaded to sit, buckets of iced water kept children cool, and the balloon man worked his way through swords, poodles and flowers for a queue of children that did not shorten all afternoon.
James Evans, Group Housing Director, ran the barbecue. Vasudev Guigan, Community Engagement Officer, planned and coordinated the event with support from the Crawley team.
